Yesterday, suprisingly, started pretty early for me. Its a Saturday and usually Saturdays mean I get to sleep till at least 8 in the morning (and yes, by my standards that means LATE!) And more suprisingly (ironic really) I found myself being awoken by none other than Jill, the person that usually sleeps till God knows when! I had completely forgotten about the fact that I had volunteered to help out at the Jumble Sale at Amcorp Mall. Frankly, getting out of bed was the hard part. But I had no other choice as I was woken at 7 45 and I was supposed to be there by 8 30!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!! After rushing around the house like a maniac and darting from one corner to the next half-naked (in my own room of course) I managed to hap-hazardly collect my things from all four corners and rush out of the house. After picking up Jill and Gee Ling (who had so sweetly made sandwiches for us all, and picking up my coffee~ you dont't want me at a sale in a grumpy mood mind you!) we rushed over to Amcorp Mall. I was secretly cursing in my heart as we were an HOUR LATE! After the car was successfully parked (Yayy Gling!) we rushed in a practically scoured the entire place only to find everything still shut! Suprised?! So much for being late!
There was no one there except for a nice old aunty named Jo and two other charming girls named Nelly and Baby (cute names but for their sake I do hope they're pet names) Jo decided to leave by 10 as there was no one around but Nelly and Baby hung back (they'd been there since 7 PLUS! YIKES!) Anywayz, soon everyone arrived and we set up the place real nice and people actually started crowding the stall!
We had tons of stuff! From books to toys to clothes! It was absolutely FAB! I had a fun time chatting with some elderly aunties who bought a ton of books for their grand kids and also but a couple of trucks! I had my eye on the Friends game set (which was practically brand new!) but the aunty decided to buy it instead. Sad me.. =( Oh well, at least it was for a worthy cause! I loved the color and the vibrance and everything around me! From the sparkly scarves to the little figurines! Everything was splendid!
Soon, Noelle and her boyfriend and Xiao-Jia showed up. Noelle soon disappeared with BoyFriend but Xiao Jia hung back and helped us all out. She was awesome! Jill tried on a bunch of stuff and so did Xiao Jia. I ended up buying two T-shirts. It was sad that I couldn't stay back with them as I had promised Shyam Akka I'd meet her up. =( But no regretz! I love Shyam Akka tons! We had a gorgeous lunch at TGIF and hung out for a bit.
By the time I had got home, I was beat! But amidst all that chaos and boxes and hordes of articles of various origins, it was so wonderful to see such love and unity between people that have never met each other before. Everyone there bound by a single goal, to help raise money for a cause we all believe in. Sometimes, a lot of people say that I'm being generous and kind and oh-so-giving for doing charity work and helping out wherever I can, but I beg to differ. Its these people and places that give me a chance to experience such joy and love and unity that I can get nowhere else! In fact, its not me who is helping them out, its quite the contrary, I learn to live for a cause, work for a cause and love the cause. Where else would I learn and witness such wondrous joys of helping and cherishing?
Lovely Heartz!!!
